Διεθνή καταδίκη προκάλεσε η ένοπλη επίθεση που σημειώθηκε κατά τη διάρκεια του δείπνου των ανταποκριτών του Λευκού Οίκουστην Ουάσινγκτον, παρουσία του Αμερικανού Προέδρου Ντόναλντ Τραμπ.
Ο Αμερικανός πρόεδρος οδηγήθηκε εκτός χώρου για λόγους ασφαλείας και ο 31χρονος δράστης συνελήφθη επί τόπου. Οι πυροβολισμοί προκάλεσαν αναστάτωση στους παρευρισκόμενους. Ένας πράκτορας τραυματίστηκε ελαφρά, ενώ οι αξιωματούχοι είναι ασφαλείς.
Το περιστατικό άνοιξε νέο κύκλο συζητήσεων για την πολιτική βία και την ασφάλεια θεσμών.
Η εν λόγω επίθεση προκάλεσε κύμα αντιδράσεων από ηγέτες σε όλο τον κόσμο, οι οποίοι καταδίκασαν το περιστατικό.
Όλες οι τοποθετήσεις συγκλίνουν στο ότι η βία δεν αποτελεί λύση. Στον αντίποδα, απειλεί τους δημοκρατικούς θεσμούς και τη δημόσια ζωή.

Ο Έλληνας πρωθυπουργός έκανε λόγο για μια «σκληρή υπενθύμιση». Τόνισε ότι η δημοκρατία δεν συμβαδίζει με τέτοιες ενέργειες. Στάθηκε στο γεγονός ότι ο Τραμπ και οι παρευρισκόμενοι είναι καλά.
